CD- Breaking Barriers ( February 2016)

A video film titled “Breaking Barriers” with English sub-titles in 20 minutes duration presents the issues and challenges faced by persons with mental illness and their families in Odisha and Maharashtra, and the efforts made by the volunteers, workers and partners to shift from individual centric approach to a larger community based participatory approach in dealing in mental health issues.



 

CD- People in Community Mental Health ( November 2015)

This video documents the experiences of fellowship program- Community Leadership Development program. Through this program grass root leaders are empowered to tackle issues in their own communities including rehabilitation of PWMI.

Gender perceptions of families and communities in Community Mental Health and Development Program ( April 2013)

The study aims at understanding the probable reasons for gender disparities prevailing in the families and communities in Community Mental Health and Development program area of BNI- NBJK in Bihar and Jharkhand states and also aims at suggesting strategies to overcome the gender disparity in implementing the program.

 

Handbook / Manual on Mental Health for Community Workers ( February 2013 )

The handbook / manual aims to train the workers at grassroots level to work with persons with mental illness .This handbook / manual is based on the experience of BNI’s work in training of partner’s staff to give the knowledge and skills to work with persons with mental illness and on mental health issues.



Voices Uniting for Change ( September 2011)

This document highlights the learning’s from the various community based interventions that BNI had undertaken through its Community Mental Health Program in Bangalore urban slums. Document also reflects on the role of stakeholders such as PWMI carers, women SHGs, DPOs, Youth and Dalit groups in influencing policy.

 

Community Based Rehabilitation and People with Mental Illnesses presented to WHO ( 2010)

This paper highlights that inclusion of mental health issues in CBR programs is possible, cost effective and help building an environment where in people with all disabilities access their entitlements and enjoy equal opportunities for full participation in their own communities.

Caregivers in Community Mental Health ( May 2008)

The research report on ‘Caregivers in Community Mental Health’ by Basic Needs India, working in the area of community mental health and development, describes people with mental illness (PWMI) and their caregivers within the family and role of caregivers in psycho social rehabilitation of PWMI. It also examines the burden of care giving with reference to the types of care during the symptomatic and stabilized phases of the illness and further examines the burden in terms of sex and age group of the persons with mental illness.

PSYCHOSOCIAL WELL-BEING OF MIGRANTS IN SHELTERS

April 2020

Guidelines for those volunteering in shelters for displaced migrants to address their psycho-social needs from BNI. The organisations running the shelter should brief, orient and train volunteers on their roles, responsibilities and skills in managing and running these centres.

Community Mental Health and Development Program in South India ( 2008-11)

Is a consolidated report of the CMHD program implemented by BNI in South India. The study endeavors to understand the South India program in its entirety- status of PWMI in order to have an understanding of issues involved in improving the lives of PWMI with the hope that it will influence policy makers, which in turn improves the lives of people with mental health problems.

CD – A journey from mental illness to recovery ( March 2008)

is an eighteen minute documentary on Lalaeppa, (stabilized person with mental illness). The film covers the BNI approach in recovery and is used to create awareness among various government departments, CBO’s, NGO’s and policy makers to reinforce the belief that Community Mental Health and Development is one of the options to address the issues of mental health.

People in our world- Community Mental Health and Development- The Practices, Trainer’s manual – Basic Needs India and Tata Institute of Social Sciences (November 2009)

This manual is an outcome of the experience over a period of seven years in Mental Health sector by Basic Needs India and its partners working in the field.  The experience extended far beyond undertaking projects or programs with persons with mental illness and their families.  As such, acknowledgement of any nature of the contribution of the vast number of people and agencies involved will ever remain inadequate.  It was a mammoth engagement in true spirit of consultation and collaboration, with persons with mental illness being in the centre.   It is a trainer manual for senior development practitioners
